Highlights from the Company’s 2013 Autumn Excursion to Songpinggou in Mao County

On November 2–3, 2013, the company organized an autumn excursion to Songpinggou in Mao County. Located within Mao County—the region with the highest concentration of Qiang ethnic residents in China—Songpinggou lies more than 220 kilometers from Chengdu. The entire scenic area was formed by the magnitude-7.5 Diexi earthquake that struck at 3:50 p.m. on August 25, 1933, making it one of the best-preserved, most clearly visible, and most typical examples of earthquake-related geological relics in China—and a rarity on a global scale. The area boasts excellent natural ecological conservation, with lush vegetation, rich biodiversity, and aquatic algae that create a kaleidoscope of colors on the water’s surface, ranging from deep green to navy blue and emerald. Under the golden autumn sun, the colorful forests are reflected in the shimmering waters, their hues constantly shifting, leaving visitors spellbound and utterly enchanted.

International Symposium on Coal Mine Gas Extraction and Utilization in Southwest China Held

From October 28 to 30, 2013, the International Symposium on Coal Mine Gas Extraction and Utilization in Southwest China was held in Guiyang. The symposium was part of an international promotion project for the commercial utilization of coal mine gas in Southwest China, jointly funded by the UK’s Strategic Prosperity Fund, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Guizhou Provincial Department of Environmental Protection, and implemented by the Guizhou Provincial Center for International Environmental Cooperation. Some 50 domestic and international delegates—representing the United Kingdom, the United States, national research institutions, as well as relevant government departments, coal enterprises, research institutes, and gas-development companies from various provinces and cities in Southwest China—gathered in Guiyang to discuss new technologies, methods, and approaches for coal mine gas extraction and utilization. Attending the event and delivering remarks were Zhai Chunbao, a member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Guizhou Provincial Department of Environmental Protection; Fu Yeqiu, Vice Chairwoman of the Guizhou Provincial Women’s Federation and Director of the Division for Addressing Climate Change at the Guizhou Provincial Development and Reform Commission; Chen Fuqing, Deputy Director of the Guizhou Provincial Coal Mine Safety Supervision Bureau; Anne Rachel, Second Secretary for Energy at the British Embassy in China; Bian Xiran, Deputy Consul at the U.S. Consulate General in Chengdu; and Ramond Pichler, Chairman of the UN Economic Commission for Europe’s Expert Committee on Coal Mine Gas. The primary objective of this project is to build upon the previously implemented China–U.S. Guizhou Province Coal Mine Gas Promotion Project, thereby advancing the commercialization of coal mine gas utilization in the Southwest region, promoting broader and more effective use of coal mine gas, increasing energy supply, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and playing a proactive role in these efforts. Our company’s Chief Engineer Yu Lanjing and Manager Xia Zehua attended the symposium.
